How to calculate fuel cost

A useful fuel estimate combines trip distance, average consumption per 100 km and the current price per litre.

Calculate fuel costUse your distance, consumption and local fuel price.

Fuel cost formula

Fuel used equals distance × consumption ÷ 100. Multiply the litres used by the price per litre to get the estimated trip cost.

Worked example

A 500 km trip at 7 L/100 km uses about 35 litres. At 1.80 per litre, the estimated fuel cost is 63.

Fuel cost questions

Why can actual consumption differ?
